Sorption of alkylphenols and estrogens on microplastics in marine conditions

چکیده

Abstract In marine ecosystems, living organisms are continuously exposed to a cocktail of anthropogenic contaminants, such as microplastics (MPs) and endocrine disrupting compounds (EDCs). Being able adsorb organic compounds, MPs would act an additional contamination vector for aquatic organisms. To support this hypothesis, the sorption six EDCs on MPs, including 4- t -butylphenol, -octylphenol, n -nonylphenol, 17β-estradiol its synthetic analog 17α-ethinylestradiol, has been investigated. These belong two contaminant families, alkylphenols estrogens, included in EU priority watch lists Water Framework Directive. Sorption kinetics were studied onto polyethylene polypropylene under seawater conditions. at concentration 0.400 mg mL −1 added mix EDCs, each individual 100 ng . The concentrations contaminants chosen be close environmental ones comparable with those found literature. results demonstrated that hydrophobicity MP type factors influencing capacity. distribution coefficient ( K d ) compound was determined compared others A high affinity between -NP PE, reaching up 2,200

the effect of taftan pozzolan on the compressive strength of concrete in the environmental conditions of oman sea (chabahar port)

cement is an essential ingredient in the concrete buildings. for production of cement considerable amount of fossil fuel and electrical energy is consumed. on the other hand for generating one tone of portland cement, nearly one ton of carbon dioxide is released. it shows that 7 percent of the total released carbon dioxide in the world relates to the cement industry. considering ecological issu...

Microplastics in the marine environment.

This review discusses the mechanisms of generation and potential impacts of microplastics in the ocean environment. Weathering degradation of plastics on the beaches results in their surface embrittlement and microcracking, yielding microparticles that are carried into water by wind or wave action. Unlike inorganic fines present in sea water, microplastics concentrate persistent organic polluta...

on translation of politeness strategies in dialogues involving female characters in translations and retranslations of novels translated before and after the islamic revolution of iran and their effects on the image of women: a polysystem theory approach

abstract reception environment has considerable effects on accepting a translation. as the expectations of a target culture and its values and needs change throughout history, its criteria for accepting a translation or rejecting it will change accordingly (gentzler, 2001). the expectations of iran, as the reception environment in the present study, have changed after the islamic revolution. i...

The physical impacts of microplastics on marine organisms: a review.

Plastic debris at the micro-, and potentially also the nano-scale, are widespread in the environment. Microplastics have accumulated in oceans and sediments worldwide in recent years, with maximum concentrations reaching 100 000 particles m(3). Due to their small size, microplastics may be ingested by low trophic fauna, with uncertain consequences for the health of the organism. This review foc...
